Dando Amor

Dear Friends,

Right now my lovely parents are in Ecuador volunteering in several orphanages. They have been there one week and have done amazing things. Almost $5,000 has been raised in ONE WEEK! Lots of people have gone to www.dandoamor.org to donate to these beautiful children. They have taken every cent that has been raised and purchased food for orphanages that have empty pantries.

This is what their shelves look like now!

This young man has severe mental handicaps and lives in a special needs orphanage. He is very aggressive and can become quite violent. Upon arriving at the orphanage, my mother was warned to keep a distance from him because he is quite strong. While my mom was talking to another orphan, this young man came up behind her and grabbed her arm. This made my mom nervous so she turned to face him. He immediately grabbed my mothers face and kissed her cheek. He proceeded to grab her hands and kiss them while she stroked his face. Everyone in the room was in shock. He had never done anything like this.

Such a beautiful baby.

I adore this picture

It is amazing to me that after all these children have been through, they are still full of joy!

My father wrote the following statement after visiting several orphanages and after receiving thousands of dollars in donations from friends, family and Playmill patrons:

We have had a whirlwind three days so far in Ecuador, visiting eight orphanages, and identifying immediate needs. I wanted to take a moment and thank our amazing Playmill patrons for your support, prayers, and donations.

It has been emotionally draining, and it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Rex Head, the director of OSSO (Orphanage Support Service Organization) reminded me of the story of the boy who one morning discovered tens of thousands of starfish washed up on the beach near his village. An elderly man watched him throw one after another back into the sea.

"What are you doing? You will never get all of those starfish back into the ocean. It makes no difference." the old man said. The boy picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea.

"It made a difference to that one," was his reply.

Sunday morning, March 10, we will deliver 500 pounds of rice, ten dozen eggs, 100 pounds of fresh fruit, flour, and sugar to one of the more destitute orphanages here-- all purchased with the donations we have received from you since Friday.

You have made a difference to that one.
